We have your valued favour of 5th. instant

and beg to answer your queries as follows:-

1. The adoption of the coinage of 1897 is absolutely necessary as regards its circulation in North Chins, the peculier milling (edge) of this dollar corpared with the milling of the new

Feso, is a very distinguishing mark as regards wixing the coinage

with the domestic dollar.

2. Me think the substitution of the words "estadcs

Unidos Mexicanos" for "Republica Mexicana" objectionable, as the

length of the nex nene would siter the look of the coin, es it is

important that the appearance of the coin should be as close as

possible to the existing old Peso.

8. Same objection pertains to the substitution of the

word "Exportacion" to "Libertad". But there would be no objection

to the change of A.M. for the present mint sign of M.O. as such

change would not be strikingly noticeable.

Your present high import duty would debar

these coins being re-imported to Mexico, and as you state, you

would take precaution that all dollars minted for export were duly

exported.

Such business would be carried on by Banks

or other high class concerns.

As regards charges and conditions we think
